Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS)

 

Advance information about steel import to government and other stakeholders, including producers and consumers, to have effective policy interventions.(launched by The Commerce and Industry Ministry )

In this system, the importers of specified steel products will register in advance on the web portal of SIMS, providing necessary information

 

Starts From

 

SIMS has been notified with effect from 1.11.2019. i.e. Bill of Entry on or after 01.11.2019 for item as listed in DGFT notification No 17 shall be governed by SIMS. The facility of on line registration will be available with effect from 16.09.2019

 

Effect of the notification

 

Specific item in chapter 72,73 and 86 shall be subject to steel import Monitoring System (SIMS)

 

How can apply
 

Registration will be online and automatic, and no human intervention will be required.an automatic Registration Number by paying Registration Fee of Rs. 1 per Thousand subject to minimum of Rs. 500/- and maximum of Rs. 1 Lakh on CIF value.

The importer can apply for registration not earlier than 60th day and not later than 15th day before the expected date of arrival of import consignment.

It shall require importers to submit advance information in an online system for import of 284 steel tariff lines (as per DGFT Notification No 17 dated 05 September 17, 20192019) in order to obtain an automatic registration number by paying prescribed registration fee.

 

The automatic registration number thus granted shall remain valid for a period of 75 days
Importer Shall have to enter the registration Number & Expiry date of Registration in Bill of Entry to enable customs, for clearance of Consignment

 

The information about the steel imports provided by the importers on SIMS will be monitored by the Steel Ministry.
